As many of you know, my other life is that of a
professional clarinetists and conductor.

I lease studio space at a music school
which was nice enough to include a Yamaha electric keyboard to
assist in my teaching. I used this for the better part of this past
year.

The school announced last month that a Baldwin
spinet was being donated to the school and that my studio was going to be
recepient of the gift.

Turns out I knew the piano well as it belonged to
a long time client of mine. This was one of the horribles pinets that Baldwin
was pumping out in the 90's. False beats everywhere, overally hard gromets,
the list goes on and on.

That all being said, I'm hear to say as a
testimonial, that this bottom of the barrel spinets is like a
cadilac compared to the sound of that keyboard.

All things being relative, this experience
reminded me of how a decent electric keyboard is still a far cry
from the entry level spinets.

Of course there are some keyboards which are
really quite nice. But for the run of the mill keyboard, not even a close call
as to which sounds better.
