Quite so.

I have college buddies I've kept in touch with for years. We have a little email list. The wives can't believe the swearing and name-calling that goes on there. But it really is our way of showing affection, and has been since we sat in bars all those years ago.

Jim,
You did not overstep. Not really. It's your version of living
on the edge. Mine is using sarcasm without inserting
emoticons. I resent having to say "just kidding".
On the other hand, I'm not sure, especially in the context of the recent
heated atmosphere, including unhappiness at the looming demise of this
list, that it's always easy to discern the friendly aspect. Take,
for example, Wim'n Duaine's exchange yesterday in the FYI posts.
You'd have to know them to know what that was. Besides, I didn't
really mean it. Keep provoking him. What can they do to
us. The list is ending. (expressionless

Duaine and I have a history of good-natured ribbing via debate, both
gentlemanly and otherwise. If he doesn't see the fun in it then I
overstepped and I apologize.
