<html><head></head><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 18px; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; "><div><div><div><div><div>I occasionally run  into adjustable pedal rods where the lock nut doesn't really accomplish it's intended task.  That is, even with the lock nut securely tightened against the adjustable nut end, with or without a metal lock washer or leather washer, the whole assembly still turns freely and works its way down the pedal rod, introducing lost motion.</div><div><br></div><div>Can someone explain the principle involved with the lock nut & washer, how they're supposed to hold the adjustable end in place, if everything is threaded the same?  How is it that, like a Yamaha I worked on today, they often turn in tandem and very freely, even when tightened together?  How is a leather or metal washer supposed to help?  Sorry, but I'm just not getting this mechanically.  Also wondering if there is a "fix" for the problem?</div><div><br></div><font face="Verdana,Helvetica,Arial"><span style="font-size:14.0px">Paul Milesi RPT<br> Washington DC<br> (202) 246-3136 Cell/Text<br> paul@pmpiano.com<br><a href="http://www.pmpiano.com">http://www.pmpiano.com</a></span></font></div></div></div></div></body></html>
