The original complaint was a re-kindled expression of frustration about
an issue that has not entirely disappeared: frustration with aspects HL
format and continued ignorance as to the ultimate (or sooner) disposition
of this list. I agree that Will's post was, perhaps, a bit
premature, but, in his defense, he had already lost an hour of his time,
at least allegedly, to the errant software, so some slack should have
been extended. Most of what followed was attacking him or in
defense of. And I would have let it ride, even though "get a
life and move on" can, in fact, be read as provocative, but, between
this and Wim's closing "shut the hell up" (sans :-)) to what
was an otherwise reasonable perspective on organizational procedures, I
felt disinclined to simply walk away.<br><br>
Both of you had the options of not continuing to read the thread or of
not responding. You both made valid points, but allowed yourselves
to indulge in 'Zing'ery. That, as much as any flawed thought process of
others, is what tends to perpetuate these things, past the point of
enlightenment or fun. <br><br>
Let's do better.<br><br>

When I was on the Board about 30 years ago, dues were due Jan 1st, but
dues notices were not sent out until Jan 31. Dues were delinquent March
31. RVP's were notified in April that if a member didn't pay by May 31,
he/she would be dropped. In other words, a member would be able to
receive full benefits, including being able to attend PTG sponsored
seminars, and get the Journal for 5 months before membership would be
dropped. When the Board first brought up the idea that we should send out
dues notices before Jan 31, one Board member actually said. "members
will think the PTG is begging for money". <br>

The Board, and Council, finally got their act together when we hired a
management company to run our organization. Dues notices are now sent out
at the beginning of November, with a payment due date of Jan 1st. The
delinquent notices are sent out Jan. 31. By that time, dues are already
30 over due. When you car insurance bill has not been paid 1 week
AFTER THE DUE DATE, you get a delinquency notice from the insurance
company. The PTG is sending out a delinquency notice ONE MONTH after the
due. date. How many days after the due date should the HO wait until the
delinquent notice is sent out? One day, one week, a month?<br>

Bottom line. Not only are our dues collection process much more
efficient, members have 3 months to get their dues paid before a
delinquent notice is sent. If you don't want the hassle of dealing with a
slow program, much less getting a delinquency notice in the mail, pay
your dues early. Otherwise, shut the hell up.<br>

Do we really think that a couple of letters getting sent out
unnecessarily is breaking the bank? Time for a reality check. Is business
that slow or are people's lives that empty that this topic continues in
every possible ridiculous iteration. People should get a life and move
on. Really. Strip away the inessential. Life is too short as it is.<br>
