This is average freeway mileage, Up here in the Sierra foothills it falls to about 23MPG. And then it falls again when my foot gets heavy - lowest ever was 19.5MPG. Most cars with this much hp will pay a gas guzzler tax but the Corvette does not - it is EPA rated at 18 to 25 and that, by experience is a conservative estimate. I call it a hatch back - maybe it is a coupe?? Now you know the rest of the story. Gene Curious, since I'm in the market for a new vehicle myself.   I checked out an HHR and PT Cruiser today.  Both were nice.  The PT has removable rear seats which leave the floor flat, except for the two metal brackets which hold the seats.  But these are sunken, so if you wanted to put a piece of plywood over the whole back area, it would sit flat.  The HHR has folding back seats which end up flat, even with the rest of the floor all the way to the rear.  It also has a rigid plastic cover which covers the wheel well, below which is the spare tire.  So there's some storage space beneath that plastic cover.  You can raise that cover to become a privacy shield over the cargo area behind the rear seats.  And there are also storage bins with covers built into the floor.  Very cool.  I didn't care for the automatic that I drove (kinda slushy, but aren't all automatics?). I think it was a 2009, and they wanted around $13k, mileage at 45k.  Is that a good deal?  I've seen them on Craigslist for less.  Yeah, it was a dealership, so no surprise there. I do most of the service myself. All of my tools fit, easy access with the hatchback and when I try I can fit an action in there. Plus it is fun to drive but I tend to stay at home when there is ice on the road and I won't drive on dirt roads unless they are in good shape. This is a great car which ticks all the boxes for the job we require it to do. Plenty of room for all piano needs etc. The only problem I have had is with the diesel filter clogging up, and having to be de-clogged by the service people at Subaru. No one else can service it as it is entirely a Subaru computer function. I have done 80,000 kl in about 16 months, and it has been a pretty good choice of motor vehicle. Have not tried it in the snow, as we don't have any here where I come from.
