J<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> The stop rail screws are in slots, simply loosen the screws and adjust up or down. <o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Typically, you want the dampers to start lifting when the hammer is half way to the string. Then you adjust the sustain pedal stop to lift the dampers slightly below that. When the key is fully depressed, you really don’t want the sustain pedal lifting the damper off the back of the key, or you can often feel it in the key. This is possible to do on the Young Chang and other Asian style damper set ups, but near impossible on the Steinway style. <o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Most sustain pedals are set to lift the dampers much too high. Set it so the bi-cord dampers just barely clear the strings. They don’t even have to clear the strings, especially if they have tails that are too long. The Young Chang has a sustain pedal stop screwed into the keybed right above the sustain lift rod from the pedal. Just use a pointed regulating tool to turn it down. If the sustain pedal lifts too much, it will jam the damper levers against the stop rail and eventually raise it to be too high. <o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Once this is all set, then you bring the damper stop rail down so that with the key fully depressed, you can barely lift the damper head against the stop rail.
