Bearing washers against cast iron are always a good idea. Plus the washer helps keep the nut from wanting to turn as you adjust the stud up and down. <o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Warning: if your holes are not perpendicular, your studs sticking up are not going to align with the plate holes very well as you lower it.
