Called in with the steep angle/friction theory. They sent me an entire set of P-202 bass strings! This event holds a record as the very best manufacturer's tech support I've ever encountered! If they could drill the tuning pins at an angle, they'd have no problem, but I guess it might be hard to set up. If the pin is tapped in lower, where you would think it should be, this is what happens. Even though the pins appear too high on the P-22, if you pound them in farther the wires will likely climb the coils. The friction will also increase. More likely to break the strings when you tune. I'd bet the factory found this out the hard way.
