When I was tuning in Southern Colorado I heard about an itinerant tuner, who traveled the plain states, south in the winter then back up north in the summer. He had a pick up truck with a camper, in which he lived. he more or less had regular customers, but when he got to a town, he would go to a church and start asking if there were pianos to be tuned. He would stay as long as he was needed, and then move on.

It's a lifestyle I've thought about, but I just can't get myself away from Hawaii. :)

You might be interested to read the Blog of
itinerant piano tuner & technician Richard Roberts.
Richard is carrying out what might be called a lifestyle
experiment, partly triggered by a rebellion against the costs of
house rental or purchase in London. He sleeps outside, and keeps
tools to a minimum. RIchard's Blog is well written and
illustrated and makes interesting reading. His website (click on

I couldn't do it - I think I'd be dead in a week!
