The wrest pin punch with "distance = stop" of a cocktail stick taped to the punch. Also shows the long-nosed pliers used = to crimp in the kneb.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>2. That punch in action.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>3. The small vise-grips hold the hitch = bend in position whilst cranking the string on the wrest pin.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>4. The hardwood dowell with round head = screw guide with wrest pin in and crank ready to put six coils on. French chalk is = used to ensure the pin does not react jerkily to tuning.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>My string maker, Gregor Heller, advises = me to "get those bass strings on pdq. In manufactur they are under tension and = increase their lenght by 8mm. Left un tensioned for any length of time results in = poor tonal quality.
