chapter in St
Louis for a great seminar. There was an ample offering of a variety of =
classes
to satisfy anyone. I've already applied what I learned from two classes =
to the
delight of one of the retailers. It's those little tricks and insights =
as well
as the concepts of alternative temperaments that made this event so =
worth while.
The concert Friday night was a real delight. I sat in the middle of =
the
hall just left of the center aisle. Ed Foote used one of =
Jim Coleman's
temperaments which seemed to open up the sound of the piano for a =
clean
rich tone that was more than just tuning and voicing. I could hear
everything. The evening was flavored by Skip Becker's introduction
of Temperaments that were in use around the time the selected =
pieces
were written and how the composers took advantage of the coloring to add =
to the
emotional effects of their work. Annette Burkhart and Dr. Jennifer =
Lim's
performances beautifully illustrated his points. Mrs. Burkhardt's =
comments about
the selected pieces added to the delight of a well rounded repertoire =
and
enjoyable evening.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Have you ever seen a grand action work
that has only the wippen lever with a jack and a hammer and shank
assembly-nothing else? It worked! But Wally Brooks added a few pieces =
from time
to time to illustrate how the action evolved and how best to keep up =
with the
regulation to give the class a very good grounding in
regulation. Ed Foote's class on the "evolution" of the
temperament is a must for anyone tuning ,just to get a better =
understanding of
what you are doing AND what you are missing. Thanks Ed! All the =
teachers
did a great job! Thanks to all of them</FONT><FONT face=Arial
