Hello =
list,

I recently encountered a problem on a late model P-2/P-22 =
(not
sure which....:-) Yamaha upright that is in a church choir =
practice room.
I was called in to repair some "notes that don't work." =
Pretty
nebulous problem, no? I got there, and discovered that =
several of
the threads that hold the tension in the hammer springs had =
broken.
I removed the offending hammers and a hammer with a good =
thread to
get a sizing model. I barely tugged on the thread, and it =
broke
right in the middle, where the spring pulls it taut. =

I did
not have any of this type of thread available, so I found some =
fairly
hefty sewing thread, braided it as best I could for strength, and =
repaired
the broken ones with it. I figured that at some point soon, =
all of
these would have to be replaced. The piano couldn't have =
been more
than 5-6 years old. I would expect a piano made for =
institutional
purposes to be far more durable than this.

I've =
seen older
P-22s last forever. The new ones seems to be constructed of =
lesser
quality materials. Any comments? Does Yamaha sell this =
thread/cord/string by the spool?

Thanks, =
