asked to look at a Pearl River, and it was a most frustrating experience =
to say

themselves,
or in the pinning of the action parts? Any kind of sluggishness =
will
affect the touchweight of any key.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>If that sluggishness is in the pinning, =
is it
simply tight pinning, or is there a problem with corrosion or abrasion =
on the
pins? Or is the sluggishness coming from poor-fitting parts, such =
as the
birds-eyes binding against the inside of the flange =
openings?</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>In the case of binding parts, I've =
often found too
much felt from the bushing protruding into the opening and causing the =
part to
bind. A very sharp razor or scalpal blade is best for removing =
this excess
in a procedure I call "shaving the armpits."</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Now that all of the parts work =
properly, how is the
engineering? It could be that when all is said and done, the keys =
still
play like a row of 2x4s unless you have the option of redesigning the
action.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I have been asked by a local dealer =
to regulate
some Pearl River uprights.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>The pianos exhibit very high down =
weight and
are very sluggish. I did not have the time to examine them =
closely to
diagnose the reason but was told by the dealer that many of these =
pianos are
comming in with these symptoms.</FONT></DIV>
