<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2> Hi =
Chuck:</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2> I can help you on =
flourescent
fixtures as our house back in Michigan had about 40 of them, the place =
was
completely lit with flourescents. The "hum" you hear is a 60 cycle =
hum
coming from the transformer inside the fixture called a ballast. =
The
ballast is mounted inside and bolted to a sheet metal surface which =
further
amplifies the sound. The only way I know of to rid oneself of the =
hum is
to buy a fixture equipped with an electronic ballast. These =
eliminate 95%
of the usual noise associated with flourescents. They are more =
expensive,
but well worth the cost. If you have "hummy" fixtures already in =
use, they
can be made quiet by replacing the conventional ballast with the =
newer
electronic type, its an easy, simple job. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2> If the =
quiet lights are not
available, I get them from W.W. Grainger company, a</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>wholesale industrial supply house, =
same with
the ballasts. They are nationwide, but they will only sell to =
established accounts (I am one) so if you can't connect with someone who =
can get
them for you, I'll be glad to give you further information. =
</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2> Consider also the =
type of tube
used in these fixtures. In the home I spoke of, we didn't want the =
"cold"
look and feel of the conventional flourescent light, so our architect =
suggested
we use "warm white" rather than the usual "cool white." This gave =
us a
light that more closely resembled an incandescent bulb or even =
daylight.
It was much more comfortable, however I use cool whites in my shop and =
the
difference doesn't bother me there. BTW, WW tubes are more
expensive. Maybe this is more information than you wanted, but =
hope it
helps, good to see you again.....</FONT></DIV>
