screw like that, I think the threads in the wood must be=
damaged. I like the threaded insert approach. The=
trick is to install the insert perpendicular to the=
surface. I think I would use 3/8, sink the insert rather=
deep with an Allen wrench and use machine screws. You=
could use the lyre as a template to drill. Photo=

seems to be damaged. It happened because some genius put=
the screw back into the hole after removing the lyre and then=
put a moving blanket over the whole thing. Naturally=
someone grabbed/shoved it, and it bent right over. Even=
so, the wood seems fine. If you have a screw like this one=
lying around, it would save me from having to retrofit a machine=
screw or resort to a lag. ;-)</FONT></DIV>

screw thing (including chucking the thing and lathing the head=
round), but it would have the wrong thread pitch (perhaps 10=
tpi?). I could go to a 3/8" lag, of course. I just=
hate to do that. A threaded insert seems more elegant a=
solution, if I have to go that route.</FONT></DIV>
