since moving
to Michigan 12 years ago. Warranty problems have been very few and =
far
between, and very minor. Dealing with the people at the factory is =
a true
joy -- some of the nicest people anywhere. Mr. Walter himself =
often takes
the calls. At one point I asked a dealer to stock a selection of =
parts for
all of the brands of pianos they sold, and years later, the only box not =
yet
opened was the one from Charles Walter.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>As for how well they age, all I can say =
is that
they simply refuse to show their age. I guess that's what happens =
when you
start with good materials and workmanship. Quite the contrast to =
those
pianos that deteriorate dramatically the instant they are lifted and =
loaded onto
a dolly for the trip off the salesfloor.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Sometimes they do require some voicing, =
particularly evenning out what's already there. There's enough =
depth to
the tone that stuff can be done with it without it going to mud when =
trying for
a mellow tone or going to something like cheap brittle plastic when =
going for
brilliance.</FONT></DIV>

FAMILY="SANSSERIF">I have a client who is considering new vertical =
pianos as a
gift for her daughter, and one in the running is the Charles Walter. I =
just
saw my first one last weekend, and that only briefly. The general =
workmanship
looked good, treble was a little short on sustain, tenor break not the =
best.
Any other comments, specifically about scaling, workmanship, =
serviceability of
the Langer action, how they are with warranty work, anything
