<HTML>Vinegar anywh= ere near the strings is a bad idea.  I had a post a few months back tha= t described the results of one of my clients with a brand new piano whose ho= usecleaners were mopping the heated floor with a vinegar/water solution. &nb= sp;The strings developed corrosion in no time flat!   The Spurlock soundboard squeegees are the way to go IMO. IMO, it has a lot of bad and/or mis-information, that could lead to beginners having major problems. The first thing, is, don't use a soundboard steel! Get the tools from Bi= ll Spurlock. These work and don't scratch the finish on the S.B. Second, do= n't use vinegar! Vinegar is an acid! (Duh!) It will attack the steel/brass. = A soft cotton cloth wrapped around the Spurlock tools, that has is SLIGHTL= Y dampened with water and mild soap, is more than adequate. Follow up with= a DRY cotton cloth, ASAP. i.e. don't let the moisture set on the strings/board, etc....Dry them off! Also, the miniature vacuum attachmen= ts, meant for computers, are great to get into those tiny crevasses. A kindergarten paint brush is also excellent to brush out the crud.
