If this is so (and I think you are correct), there is a Madison Chapter member who has been violating these rules for years. For that matter, I think it violates Yellow Pages advertising standards but no one wants to challenge the usage, so it continues year after year.
When "Madison's Best" first appeared, I was the chapter vice president and one of the other chapter members brought it to my attention. When I spoke to the member about it, he was very defensive, saying that I was out of line about bringing it up since I did not go through the chapter president. When I became president, the same member complained again and when I brought it up with the offending member, he said that there was a procedure in place for that kind of grievance and that it should be followed and he would defend vigorously his right to advertise that he is the "best".
These kind of advertising claims are usually self defeating. I doubt very many are persuaded by such a claim. It seems ludicrous to me because I have observed over the years that this individual is one of those who consistently substitutes Reverse Well for ET. As they say, no one temperament can be considered "better" than another.
