Anybody have any information on the difference between Yamaha =
pianos
built
in Japan for Japanese distribution versus ones for US
distribution. I have
a customer looking at a U1, 15 years =
old that
falls into the made for
Japanese distribution category. It =
has only
two pedals, otherwise there is
not obvious =
difference.

David

It used to be that the only difference between =
Japanese Yamahas and American Yamahas was that 1) all the grands were =
made in
Japan, 2) the verticals made in Japan were entirely made in Japan =
whereas the
verticals "made" in the U.S. had plates, strings, action and keys from =
the
factory in Japan, but the cases and assembly were done at the Everett =
factory
in Michigan, which Yamaha bought. The "import" verticals =
had
slightly nicer hardware, smoother plate finish, and maybe slightly =
better
quality control but otherwise not much difference. Whether this =
is still
true or not I don't know, but I'm sure any Yamaha dealer or company =
literature
would explain.
