Kawai inner rims are made of Callophyllum or Matoa. Both of
these are about as dense and hard as hard maple, with Callophyllum being
a little harder and more dense. It's mean and nasty to work with,
though.<br>
<br>
Some outer rims are made with the hardest woods, and others with softer
Luan mahogany. Depends on the model and the supply of wood.<br>
<br>
Kawai concert grands are sometimes made with built up maple rims, but
this is not the norm. Bent Matoa is the most common rim for the EX
and GS-100.<br>
