Tried searching on pianotech archives tonight. First it could find no results for "Yamaha GH-1 tuning stability", so I changed it to "tuning stability", still no results in pianotech's search. Searched on "tuning", no results for the word tuning? Then searched for "Yamaha", nothing in the archives about Yamaha....................?!

Anyhow, there is a Yamaha GH-1 which "has never been able to stay in tune". All the plate screws were loose, so I tightened them and started tuning. The strings are starting to get rusty and they hang up on the understring felt in the bass and tenor sections. Wire brushed the felt, trying to get under the strings, or at least alongside them.

There's another Yamaha, a C-7, which I have been tuning for over 20 years. It has the same problem of hanging up on the felt, but somewhere around the fifth and sixth octaves. Have wire brushed and used protek on the felt. Makes it somewhat easier to tune, but have never found a really GREAT solution.

Have thought of lowering the tension, removing the felt and replacing it with: a brass rod, leather, ?????????????

Thanks for ideas,

Diane Hofstetter
