<DIV>So, I was ready to change to 17 mm shanks because these =
wippens
currently on the piano (D from 1975) are Renner. Now, if I change =
to NY
"improved" wippens I'll have to test again for 16 or 16.5 mm =
shanks. Not
that I can't do that, of course, it's just going to take forever to get =
the
right parts--unless I order sets of each size. Is that what
folks usually do? Renner and others sure have the right idea =
in
providing a parts kit!</DIV>

<DIV> I've used many sets of these wippens & they seem to =
fit all
the older pianos quite well. They are lighter than the Renner type by =
2 to 3
grams & they seem to be an exact copy of the old style wippen =
which I
like. I'm not thrilled of late with the amount of traveling I've found =
necessary & on a most recent set , returned them with =
complaint to
Kent webb. Overal though I like the parts. The Renner Usa part is now =
IMO a
good part since they changed the angle of the jack to match that of =
the
original. The Hamburg style is for use with 17mm parts. The N.Y. parts =
will
work best with 16 & 16.5mm parts. JMO.</DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Argh. Well, the customer has =
decided that
the piano needs Genuine Steinway parts--positive proof that the =
marketing
works. :-) I called Steinway Parts department, =
who doesn't
sell samples, called and left a message with Tech Services to call =
me back,
and will ask here, too. I really prefer the Hamburg style =
(Renner)
wippen. But looking at the drawings of the "repetitions" =
(which don't
include the heel) in the Technical Reference Guide (from =
1992--is
there a new one?), The current NY ones look shorter compared =
to the
Hamburg Style. The question is, will or how much will the =
style of
wippen affect things--like touchweight, or is it mostly the knuckle =
to
center pin distance? Is there more than one size =
regulating
button? I can't seem to find them in my *old* price =
list.</FONT></DIV>
