restringing.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>1. The wrest pin punch with "distance =
stop" of a
cocktail stick taped to the punch. Also shows the long-nosed pliers =
used to
crimp in the kneb.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>2. That punch in action.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>3. The small vise-grips hold the =
hitch bend in
position whilst cranking the string on the wrest =
pin.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>4. The hardwood dowell with round =
head screw
guide with wrest pin in and crank ready to put six coils on. French =
chalk is
used to ensure the pin does not react jerkily to tuning.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>My string maker, Gregor Heller, =
advises me to
"get those bass strings on pdq. In manufactur they are under tension =
and
increase their lenght by 8mm. Left un tensioned for any length of time =
results
in poor tonal quality. Right now they are hanging in a bunch from the =
workshop
roof.</FONT></DIV>
