My 50" M&H upright blows away most grands under 6', especially in th= e bass. I don't know if it's soundboard area, bass string length, or overa= ll scale design, but my upright has a big fat sound. Not tubby. And a rich singing treble. And a properly regulated Renner upright action ain't so shabby either. I don't know why people prefer cheap grands to high-end uprights. Charles Neuman PTG Assoc, Long Island _______________________________________________ pianotech list info: https://www.moypiano.com/resources/#archives </BLOCKQUOTE> Speaking of nice uprights, while attending the San Ramon, CA PTG confere= nce, I had the chance to check out a Fandrich and Sons upright.  It is = actually a Klima piano(about 150 a year made in the Czech republic), which i= s an excellent piano even without the Renner-built Fandrich action.  Fi= rst time I've ever seen that action.  The speed of it was impressive ev= en in an exhibit hall that contained a Stanwood System S and S A(does that m= ake it an SS S and S?) If you haven't seen one of these uprights, check one out if you get the = chance; it will definitely make you wonder why people by cheapo grands. &nbs= p; Dave Stahl</HTML>
