I think the threads in the wood must be damaged. I like the =
threaded
insert approach. The trick is to install the insert perpendicular =
to the
surface. I think I would use 3/8, sink the insert rather deep with =
an
Allen wrench and use machine screws. You could use the lyre as a =
template

seems to be
damaged. It happened because some genius put the screw back into =
the hole
after removing the lyre and then put a moving blanket over the whole
thing. Naturally someone grabbed/shoved it, and it bent right =
over.
Even so, the wood seems fine. If you have a screw like this one =
lying
around, it would save me from having to retrofit a machine screw or =
resort to a
lag. ;-)</FONT></DIV>

thing
(including chucking the thing and lathing the head round), but it would =
have the
wrong thread pitch (perhaps 10 tpi?). I could go to a 3/8" lag, of =
course. I just hate to do that. A threaded insert seems more =
elegant
a solution, if I have to go that route.</FONT></DIV>
