<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Hello Phil Bondi and Terry Farrell et

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Some time ago I down-loaded from =
S&S Technical

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>A (Round Tail) 6' 0" Introduced =
1878 (may I
suggest this is AI?)</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>A (Square Tail) 6' 0" Introduced =

suggest this is A II?)</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>AIII =

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>This last one is what I have and what I =
believe
Barbara Richmond has.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>According to S&S (and they should =
know) they
never made a 6' 1" model.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>The interesting point here is - look at =
the date
embossed on the plate at the tail end. S&S told me specifically that =
this
was the Patent date. This info I got from Ulrich in London =
S&S.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial>Hey Phil,</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial>Larry Fine has some specifics regarding these =
models in
his book in the chapter on "buying a used piano - Steinway (NY) models". =
I see
that some responses have stated that the A1 was 6' 0" and the A2 was 6' =
1". Mr.
Fine indicates whereas that is indeed what the Steinway catalogs =
state, but
in practice the actual models varied by about an inch - so indeed you =
could run
across a model A1 and A2 of the same length. I guess part of that =
"unique
personality thing". Must have been fun fitting the same size plate to =
pianos
that varied by an inch - or maybe the plates varied by an inch also. I =
wonder,
was any effort extended to put the oversized plates into the oversized
cases?</FONT></DIV>
