Possibly, the original flange bushing cloth was "impregnated" with graphite, al a Renner bushing cloth. Then some ijit = decided to put a bit of "lube" on them puppies....probably WD-40. WD-40 gets = gummy with age, in my experience. Flushing it out of metal parts is not a problem. = But, flushing it out of wood would be next to impossible, IMO.
