In order to get the clearance you're looking for to get the string under the bar, you will need to loosen about three of four screws. This will result in that whole section to go out of tune. You might be able to tighten those screws again, but as Clyde mentioned, it might put too much pressure on the screws, which then might break off. So you are left with a dilemma. If you replace the string, which mean having to loosen the pressure bar, which will cause the piano to go out of tune, and maybe even break a screw or two, you're looking at maybe an hour of work. Is the customer going to pay you for all that work just to replace a string? Better tell her what's going to be involved, and how much it is going to cost her. She might opt to go without a string. If you are going to do all the work, and replace the string, you have to be very careful of one other thing. When replacing a string I have seen decals jump off the fall board. So you better put masking take over it, just in case. :) Wim </HTML>
