technique on a
few new pianos where the hammers are as hard as rocks, and it does help. =
One
word of caution though, I would only use it on the hammers in the bass =
through
the mid-treble where there is enough felt on the hammer to grip. Wally =
Brookes
teaching this technique in his "Tone Building the Piano" classes, and he =
cautions against using it on smaller hammers because he said that you =
could
hypothetically put the felt off the molding if not done carefully. =

quite a bit,
but now I'm more disposed to deep needling the shoulders on those =
hammers that
have a hard attack and little sustain. I kind of think of it as
"pre-voicing".</FONT></DIV>
