It was a matter of curiosity to me. I sincerely love working on Ka=
wai products, because of their consistency and ease of tuning. I work =
on more of them than any other kind of piano; it's only logical that I will =
run across a problem once in a while.

I will cease attempting shortcuts when I deal with this problem. I=
've burnished and/or repinned in the past, and never had a problem afterward=
. I will deal with it that way in the future. No magic pot=
ions or elixirs for the long term, I guess...

Thanks for the response,

Dave
The plastic has nothing to do with the difference in your experiences, D=
ave. The root cause for the sluggishness will explain what you have fo=
und. Most likely, the wood parts you have dealt with have had poor qua=
lity bushings that were never fit well, so some lubrication will get you out=
of trouble. The Kawai actions will have high quality bushing cloth th=
at were originally fit properly, but there is something else wrong causing t=
he centers to tighten up. Humidity alone should not do this, unless th=
ey are literally soaked with water.

You should not put lubricants on these parts - it generally does more da=
mage than good, and does not really address the problem. If the part i=
s tight, it should be repinned for proper fit.

If you think the piano is in warranty, you should call one of us at the =
Kawai office with the serial number to check. Again, a little draftine=
ss and dampness will not cause action parts to go this tight - there is some=
thing else going on, and by trying to use a quick fix you are not diagnosing=
it. Do not lubricate it while the warranty is in effect, as this coul=
d very likely make you responsible for the action warranty from there on!

Kawai action centers very become overly tight from humidity - if anythin=
g, they tend to be a little on the loose side in dry climates. Well fi=
t cloth bushings and polished center pins do not need any lubrication to wor=
k properly. When you run into this, take an offending part out, take t=
he pin out, burnish and install a new pin. It will be permanently fixed.</BL=
