My search is for more in-depth appreciation of piano construction brought about by what appears to be a = lack of definitive knowledge of downbearing and the relative measurements on = each side of the bridge. The interesting thing here is that there = are = pianos about where there is only one bridge pin per string. Though I have = only seen this feature on grands and then only in the bass string = section, it is food for thought. The sideways thrust is cancelled out by half = the strings having their hitches biassed in one direction and the other half biassed in the other direction. In such a configuration there can be no = doubt that the strings shall not rise away from the bridge. This could possibly be = the way to increase the tonal remanence thereby increasing the output on the = smaller piano.
