I was pleased and relieved to discover that my friends and colleagues David & Judy Hughes of Maryland has started a new company that specializes in the reproduction of grand piano Lids as well as some music desk parts. You'll find his new add on page 15 in the most recent journal. Dave continues the rebuilding shop as well.<BR>
Many of us in the piano rebuilding trade face ever increasing parts costs which puts some projects over the financial feasibility barrier with some clients on some pianos, so I, m always pleased to find out someone is building a better mouse trap for less money and seems to be happy to have your business. I think this is just the case here.<BR>
Any of you who have ever had to replace an original Steinway lid for example are at the mercy of the Mother ship for resupply (Stwy Factory) Their rather expensive pricing has gone through the roof in the last 2 years on some models. I have waited for as much as 3 &1/2 and 5 months for the last Stwy A-2 and model D lids I ordered. Also because the A model is no longer in production the price of a mahogany raw (no finish) is right at $2393.00 Plus crating and shipping. In excess of $2600. Oouucchh.. The ebony versions of a D or A lid unfinished are $1787.00. I'm guessing model O lids are pricey too as it's out of production also.<BR>
The sample price in Davis (VINTAGE CASE PARTS) add reads that a sample pricing for an ebony<BR>
A-2 lid is Ebony $1256.00<BR>
Mahogany $1446.00<BR>
Walnut $1524.00<BR>
Crating fee $100.00<BR>
As you can see these are substantial savings in cost and wait time compared to the other options. I for one endorse such a new venture.<BR>
