Aloha, Today was a long day! It was the first time to tune two pianos for a con= cert with them setting out side in the sun right on the ocean. I did a priv= ate part on the beach for Niki , but only one piano. And it was under a big= shade tree. They left the conservatory at 10 AM . From the AC where they h= ave been at A-440 and tuned to match for teaching side by side . One a= Yamaha G-1 the other a Howard C171 . By 11:30 AM they are both set up on t= he stage . A quick check and the Howard is close a little flat from 6th oct= ave up the Yamaha is about 4 to 5 cents flat through out. So I figure = they are both going to drop in the direct sun light lets bring the Howard u= p in the 6th and 7th octave. Then I went to the Yamaha it has droped even further so I start at = A-0 and pull it up to a little above A-440 .  about 3 or 4 cents above A-440 .Now it's close enough to fine= tune . By the time I got back to the Howard the 6th and 7th was sharp the = sun was no longer shining directly on that part of the piano . I decide aft= er a quick check of the rest of the piano I can fine tune without correctin= g pitch first in the 6th and 7th octave . Ok done lets check out the Yamaha= . WOW the sun is shining right on the pin block the 5th and 6th octive is = flat. Pins that were acceptable at noon now feel very loose . It's now about 2pm sound check is at 3:30 = I notice that the sun is not even shining on the Howard like it was and&nbs= p;the cool trade winds are picking up about this time. So you know whats go= ing on with it. I retune the Yamaha 5th  6th & 7th.octaves and start to re= check the bass octaves the tenor is sharp !!!! corrected because they are r= unning late for sound check it's 3:40 PM  Oh ya I forgot to tell you a= bout the leaf blower guy and the sound check guy working around me all afte= rnoon ! Ok here comes the performers .First thing they want to do move the&= nbsp;pianos . Guess what they play Rock and Jazz . Thank God . They ar= e happy , I'm not so I stay after they leave and work the pianos for anothe= r 30 or 40 min. as the sun drops behind the palms.  What a long day .
