death. I was
thinking of him when I was tuning my Hamilton. Having ridden out =
hurricane
Isabel in a little cargo trailer, it was about 20 cents flat. =
I did
one pass to chip it up to pitch and then another to fine-tune it. =
After I
had chipped it and after I had at least part of my keyboard in tune, I =
tried
playing it. Yup, it sounded in tune (the part that I was playing), =
but it
was extremely "noisy" and obnoxious. When I finished tuning the =
rest of
the piano, the noisy obnoxiousness went away. I'm sure that =
vibrating all
those out-of-tune strings in the higher register was much like vibrating =
out-of-tune duplex segments on a grand. Very interesting. It =
was
enough to convince me that the duplex should either be tuned or =
muted. Of
course I realize others are advocates of detuned, unmuted duplex
scales.</FONT></DIV>
