The searchable, list-generated archives are a manageable format. If I am not diligent in re-sorting by date, I sometimes miss a relevant post or two but by scanning the threads I can pick them out. Still faster than having them on my computer.  I imagine it would also be quicker for those with a dial-up connection by not having to wait for all posts to come chuggin' in once they log-on, only to find many irrelevant posts to delete. I placed a link in my <start menu>. When the beginning of a new month rolls around, I click on its <properties> and replace the month. Posts to the list show up in the archives within a few minutes, so time delay is not an issue. Before accessing the archives, reading the mail took anywhere from 30 minutes to sometimes over an hour.  Now, I can get it accomplished in 10 minutes, with nothing to delete. Impulse posting and those who feel compelled to post on everything might think twice since a reply takes a certain amount of effort to copy and paste relevant text.
