is correct. The squares were not and cannot ever be modern =
pianos.
It is tempting to add bichord wedge dampers to them to make them stop =
ringing
faster, but remember that immediate cut off of sound is a modern 20th =
century
innovation. Unless the owner wants the modern felt, I use what the =
factory
used where possible. I have even been known to fabricate Linen =
dampers
which are made by sewing many thicknesses of linen together with the =
open fluffy
end acting as the damper. This is called historic =
restoration. They
work well but there is no immediate cut off of sound. This is what =
Beethoven heard when he wrote the music. I know it would be so =
nice to put
modern repetition lever wippens into a square, but I would not do that
