If the mortice cut has been badly done made. It may be the cause of the

I''ve checked and rechecked the bedding on this instrument 5 or 6 times.
Darned things been driving me crazy :) Dags hold the back rail firm, front
rail is as flat as you ever could want.... no.. its not the bedding.</blockquote>

Having a hard time visualising this. Why cant the hammer rail be
just plain too flexible ? Believe me I would love to avoid putting in a
new one.
