They're made out of Clothes Pins. Take the "pin" apart and = drill a 7/32" hole in one of the "jaws". Then slice it with a fine hand saw, = parallel to the hole sides. The other side  should be flattened on a sander or = such so that that surface will hold the leather flat on the back check. = Michael's description is correct. Glue the leather to the "curve" first, then do = the "flat". Usually, this can be done without removing the butts from the = action. The most difficult part is getting the olde leather off, first.<G> = BTW, use hot hide glue.
