<HTML><HTML>I have never used the PVC glue for = bushings but the hide glue has another benefit in that it sizes the key bush= ing hole. If you use the metal cauls and mic the key pins to get the corr= ect size the bushing job will come out really accurately with almost no easi= ng. Make sure the glue is thick enough to stay on top of the bushing clot= h and not absorb, that will make the bushing too hard. I try to use the t= hinnest cloth possible. Do a sample key to get it right. Sometimes on = the really old pianos the mortices are so worn, especially if someone has do= ne a bad job of removing the old bushing cloth (removing wood with the bushi= ng). I just dip the brush into the water in the glue pot and brush a l= ittle on the wood before applying the glue. Use two brushes. One for wat= er and one for glue so you won't dilute your glue. The use of the cauls w= ill allow the key to swell up against the caul automatically sizing the mort= ice. The least amount of glue is desirable, the thicker glue will stay put a= nd not tend to squeeze out in the top of the key. The hot water swells th= e mortice and the glue will keep it there.
