<DIV>Hi Dave,</DIV>
<DIV>Take the ser. # and check with Yamaha, it may still be in warranty. =
If so
they would probably supply new flanges.</DIV>
<DIV>Otherwise a set from Schaff #3809 is $32.83.</DIV>
<DIV>Although there was a rumour that they are no longer allowed to sell =
Yamaha
parts, because of the grey/ wet problem. I don't know how true that =
is.</DIV>
<DIV>If some broke the rest will break within a short time.</DIV>
<DIV>Fishing line or dial cord make an acceptable substitute. Determine =
the
length and get a suitable piece of dowel, wrap around for how many you =
need and
slice with a razor blade.</DIV>
<DIV>Make a jig a piece of wood with two nails the proper distance =
apart, put
the screw hole of the flange in one and wrap the cord around the other =
one,
gluing them in the previously cleaned slot where the rotten one =
was.</DIV>
<DIV>The butt flange cord is also available at Schaff #3843, it comes in =
14 ft
lengths @ $1.28 ea.</DIV>
<DIV>Good luck.</DIV>
<DIV>Regards, </DIV>

spring
thread</DIV>
<DIV><BR></DIV><FONT face=arial,helvetica><FONT size=2>Hello list, =
<BR><BR>I
recently encountered a problem on a late model P-2/P-22 (not sure =
which....:-)
Yamaha upright that is in a church choir practice room. I was =
called in
to repair some "notes that don't work." Pretty nebulous problem, =
no?
I got there, and discovered that several of the threads that =
hold the
tension in the hammer springs had broken. I removed the =
offending
hammers and a hammer with a good thread to get a sizing model. I =
barely
tugged on the thread, and it broke right in the middle, where the =
spring pulls
it taut. <BR><BR>I did not have any of this type of thread =
available,
so I found some fairly hefty sewing thread, braided it as best I could =
for
strength, and repaired the broken ones with it. I figured that =
at some
point soon, all of these would have to be replaced. The piano =
couldn't
have been more than 5-6 years old. I would expect a piano made =
for
institutional purposes to be far more durable than this. =
<BR><BR>I've
seen older P-22s last forever. The new ones seems to be =
constructed of
lesser quality materials. Any comments? Does Yamaha sell =
this
thread/cord/string by the spool? <BR><BR>Thanks, <BR><BR>Dave
