<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Pin Driving Fluid is, essentially, the =
base for
Varnish without the extra "driers", etc., that are added by each =
manufacturer.
In the first part of my career, I got the stuff from Trefz, (a now =
defunct
supply house. It burned down!).</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Then, I was able to get a very similar =
Resin from
Rodda Paints, here in Portland. They have since quit stocking it. (And, =
I'm
almost out of it!) Because of this, I have been searching around, (with =
some
help from Dave Peake), for a suitable replacement. I've pretty much =
tracked down
a new supplier. However, this new stuff reacts differently in our
application(s). As this is not a real high priority for me, I'll have to =
say
that it's on the back burner, at present. I'll keep y'all posted, when I =
get the
major details ironed out. I hope to make it available to =
all.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>There are those who use modern type =
Varnish. This
will work, but I don't like the end results. (poppy pins, =
etc.)</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>The main function of Pin Driving Fluid =
is to
lubricate the wood, so that the threads of the tuning pin do not tear =
wood fiber
when the pin is driven into the pin block. The end results is a =
consistant pin
torque, (all other things being consistant.<G>)AND the block will =
have a
modicum of sealer between the pin and the wood.</FONT></DIV>
