explain my inability to open up the hammers and the weenie, nasal sound =
(my
opinion), which has been a problem since the piano was =
new. Actually,
I thought I did a pretty decent job of getting rid of the plastic hiss
yesterday. From the beginning I've never been able to do
nice, controlled needling on the shoulders--I'd have to use the =
full force
of my heavy voicing tool with 1 needle and pray I didn't hit
my thumb. :-O I certainly never would
have guessed that these hammers would have needed hardening in the =
first
place. </FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>BTW, I contacted the previous tech (in =
a friendly
manner) to try to find out how much keytop solution had been used. =
He said
not much. Earlier, he had said that he used the solution to make =
the piano
growl. Well, I guess we all have our definition of growling, but I =
think
hissing or sizzle is different than growling. Though I =
believe a
piano this size should indeed be capable of growling, I don't think it =
should
<always> growl.</FONT></DIV>

that are
not only too hard to begin with. They also seem to be hardened =
at the
factory (with what seems like lacquer) to a point that is =
indefensible.
So, you are dealing not only with whatever the other technician =
applied; but
also whatever was done at the factory/dealer to begin with. I =
would like
to recommend the Wurzen hammers to start with; and do so with the =
caveat that
there are some instruments/makers/models which seem to require a =
harder hammer
to get much going in the way of sound. YMMV.<BR><BR>Good
