OK David, I'll bite. Are you sure that =
there was a
dramatic reduction in the sound from needling the wippen cushion? If so, =
why go
to all the trouble doing that, when you can simply replace them all in =
probably
less time than it would take to needle them. If you DO needle =
them, I
guarantee that the cloth will just pack back down in a short time, so =
why
bother? Just take out the action, put it on the bench, cut off the =
action cloth,
slit a section of new cloth the width of the wippen, cut it into =
sections with a
guillotine, and glue the new pieces on. Simple, and good for another =
twenty
years or longer. I hope that helps.

cushions

List,

I have a Feurich 190 Grand with a lot of =
clack on
release. I pulled one wippen and needled the cushion. =
Noise
dramatically reduced. Question: Has anyone tried Downy or =
steam on
these babies? I noticed that the hammer level was raised =
slightly with
the needling fluffing up the cloth so I'm wondering what softeners =
might
do. I'd have to completely dry the cushions before reassembling =
the
action or I suppose cupping would occur from the capstan? That =
would be
a drawback...needles might be quicker...does any of this last very
long?

David I.
