Several years ago
when I bought my new 1098 and noticed that it had a reversed-crown =
soundboard, I
called NY several times (at least three times, maybe four) speaking =
with
different Steinway technical representatives each time. Only =
one guy
had enough background to say that he thought soundboards were supposed =
to be
crowned the other way. The other two or three thought they were supposed =
to be
flat.

One of these days I'll have to write them and =
thank them
for fueling my interest in pianos and soundboards. I remember being =
dumbfounded
that I could not get a straight answer from them. It was a very =
frustrating
experience.
