Yes, their pinblock is primarily laminated quartersawn maple, with a couple of layers of bubinga. Don't know the exact dimensions or total number of layers. I may have a reference sheet somewhere. If not, we'll get one. BTW, Hamburg is using our maple rim stock, but continues to put a layer or two of bubinga in that as well. According to Hartwig, they are just using it up. Their soundboard material is Sitka that we supply, ribs are spruce, and they crown them. > -----Original Message----- > From: Sambell, Ted [SMTP:Ted_Sambell@BanffCentre.AB.CA] > Sent: Monday, August 21, 2000 7:50 PM > To: 'caut@ptg.org' > Subject: RE: Hamburg Pinblock? > > John, > > The top and bottom layers of the Hamburg Steinways are bubinga as Rick > said. > I visited the factory and was told this. > > Ted Sambell > > -----Original Message----- > From: John Minor [mailto:jminor@uiuc.edu] > Sent: Monday, August 21, 2000 2:17 PM > To: caut@ptg.org > Subject: Hamburg Pinblock? > > > Can anyone identify what type of wood is the Hamburg pinblock made from? > There is a layer of reddish wood that looks like mahogany, but seems too > hard for that.
