G'day Joel,

I saw last year in the Steinway factory in Hamburg that they use dense foam
in about 8" x 2" strips, it looked like a giant rubber band, the strip was
cut to fit around the piano and joined (sorry, I didn't notice how it was
joined, probably plastic weld or maybe a scarf joint glued). It was thick
enough and dense enough to protect the finish if it collided with another
piano.

Cheap and practical if somewhat ugly...but then it's only on when the piano
is being stored or moved. There were 1" dowel pegs on the walls all over the
place to hang these on when not in use.
