This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment Thanks all! I'm appreciative and (typically) amazed at the variety of responses, shows how we all hear the same thing,.. a little differently. :>) I've included a quote from Eric's post for the pleasant irony; For a concert instrument, I want to start out as close to specs as possible with the understanding that I may have to repin very soon. Eric I couldn't agree more, and though I've never expected to have a "perfect" set of flanges "out of the box," as Ron suggests, in the four sets I've installed since July, have also experienced the very same consistant results Eugenia reports, though mine were not with Abel parts. My mode, which may be similar to yours is to install new parts, rough-in the regulation, and send it out to play for a few months, adjusting as necessary. After things have been allowed to play in, I will do the weigh-off, address friction (re-pinning as necessary) and re-weight the key-set. My regret, as Eric may alude to, is in having to do a thorough re-pinning now, as perhaps "preliminary" to the re-pinning I will no doubt have to do after wear-in. Y'all catch that? :>) I am entirely confident in our ability to acheive precise results through re-pinning (burnishing and sparse reaming as necessary), but have even a bit more reverence for the long-lasting stability of the original pin fit. ie: I like the "wet" fit method of conforming bushing cloth centres to the pin shape, and it's what I use when re-bushing my own flanges. With regard to the manufacturer, I thanked them for past quality, good service, and in a manner my American friends describe as "pathetically Canadian," apologized for having to bother them. I will this afternoon install these flanges and hang hammers. The piano will shortly be onstage, and I hope "mass" re-pinning will wait til the December break. Oh yeah, the manufacture will indeed re-imburse me (Newton),... after all, "this is what I'm paid to do!" :>) best regards, Mark Cramer, RPT Brandon University ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
