Ray, Nothing to do with ranking techs. (If it were, I'd sure be pretty near the bottom of the barrel). Yes, it is asking a subjective opinion of the person responding. That opinion will be considered as a preliminary piece of information. The idea is to present the information gathered under categories similar to those in the question (exact wording to be negotiated within the caut committee and caut community). Why? To bias the results in the direction of higher quality institutions (or at least those who have that reputation, and who presumably spend more money keeping up their pianos). To make a "real life" picture useful, we want to hold up a picture of something to emulate (IMO). Certainly no offense is intended to anyone. I assume we can look at the responses we get and come to some consensus concerning which institutions are worthy of inclusion in the first three categories. My preference would be to list those institutions by name (though not specifying which have what workload) under each category except #4, which would be anonymous. Just one man's opinion of how to go about making a positive difference in the overall caut picture. If we can show in a practical way what real life institutions are doing, and showcase those which other institutions try to emulate, we'll have some useful evidence to present to the powers that be when, eg, we say we need more than one tech to take care of 250 pianos at institution X. (In my case, I have managed to improve my situation to 1/2 tech taking care of 85 pianos. Used to be contract at about 1/4 time for the same workload). Fair enough? Regards, Fred Ray T.
