Sheffey, Conrad, Our new music building had storage space allowed for just outside of the backstage area in the hallway for both of our D's. Even climate controlled! :-) If there is any, any, any way possible, try to get this. It will make your life SO much easier if the piano is stored at close to the same temp. and humidity as the hall. But re: Conrad's question, what I did to take care of that potential problem was to carefully measure from floor to just under the lid lip, then had carpeted 1x6's (or whatever width you want) installed all the way around the room so that the lid would clear the padded 1 x's. That way, all the movers (stage hands) had to do was open the double doors and push it in until it GENTLY bumped on the back wall rail. It can't be scraped on the side either, because of the carpet. The rail _does_ need to be thick enough that even if the piano is "slid" in against the padded rail, the lid lip won't touch the wall above it! There's even a wide shelf about 3" or so above the piano space running the length of the room for misc. storage! The piano protrudes enough from under that, that the artist bench can be upended and stored on the lid. That leaves room for a second harpsichord stand and my upright tilter between the two grands. I love it. Avery >At 21:27 02/15/2001 -0500, you wrote: >> I'm Sheffey Gregory, now technician for a university concert >> grand.
