Hi Mary, Get a floor model. Believe me, once you have a drill press you will wonder how you ever lived without one for so long. First do not go with cheap like Sears Crapsman. Two issues are important. Ball bearings EVERYWHERE. They ar easy to replace Run out, how far the bit is deflected by slop in the head and quill. Run out effects accuracy and consistency. If you can find an old used Delta, Powermatic or something in that quality range you can rehab it it to better than a new cheapie. Good hunting. Newton
